STEP 9
- ACCEPT OR REJECT THE OFFER
At this point in the job hunting process, one of the following will occur:
- You will be offered the position for which you applied.
- You will be offered a different position than the one for which you applied.
- You will be informed that you have not been selected for the position for which you applied.
- You will be informed that no decision will be made at this time regarding who will be offered the position for which you applied.
Here's what you should do:
- If
#1 occurs, you should forward a letter of acceptance or rejection (with
reasons why) depending upon whether you wish to accept or reject the job
offer.
- If
#2 occurs, you should forward a letter of acceptance or rejection (with
reasons why) depending upon whether you wish to accept or reject the job
offer.
- If
#3 occurs, you should send a thank you letter indicating your appreciation
of their consideration of your application, and ask to be considered for
future positions. Include a brief statement of your employment value
and how it can be of use to the employer.
- If
#4 occurs, you should send a thank you letter indicating your appreciation
of their consideration of your application, and mention that you will follow-up
on this matter in the very near future.
If you elect to accept the position
offered, then you should also call the person who offered you the position to
personally thank him, and to inquire as to the proper protocol involved in starting your new position.
