The Easy 10 Step Job Hunting Guide
by James C. Gonyea
STEP 10 - EVALUATE THE PROCESS
At this point in your job search, it's time to evaluate your progress and the process itself.
If you've been successful:
If you've been able to secure a position that meets your needs and interests, then you can conclude that your job search is finished and you have been successful. If this is the case for you, don't forget to personally thank all the people that have helped you along the way, especially those people on your support team. Give each person a call, or drop them a personal thank you card or letter. Consider giving each person on your support team some small token of your appreciation.
If you have not yet been successful:
If you have not yet secured the job you want, then it's more-than-likely simply a matter of time. Be patient and continue ahead, repeating the steps in the process. There is no standard length of time within which you should succeed, this varies from person to person. However, if after several months you still have been unsuccessful, you should carefully review what you have done (and have not done) to see if you can improve your outcome by improving your strategy.
Here's a list of common problems that often prevent people from succeeding in the job search. Review the list and if you believe any are true of you, return to the appropriate step in the process where the issue was covered and examine the way in which you handled the step:
If you don't believe you're having problems with any of the above, but you're still experiencing difficulty finding employment, then I recommend that you seek out the services of a career advisor - someone who can review your job hunting strategies and materials and recommend ways to improve your performance and outcome. This approach usually corrects the matter, as often we ourselves are unable to see our own errors.
